Italki is a platform for students or people who want to learn a foreign language. There are a lot of teachers, mainly native speakers, and tutors who offer their lessons there. I first heard about Italki when I attended the Language Challenge Course on Englishka.cz. It was our challenge go on Italki and find some teacher who teaches an English lesson.
On Italki there is detailed information and an introductory video about the teacher. It is possible to see on the timetable if the teacher has a free time and book the lesson. I tried to book a lesson and it was very difficult to understand and speak with native speakers at the low level A2.
But after 4 months of intensive learning on Englishka.cz I was able to communicate a bit more and I enjoyed it. It is a really exciting feeling to speak with a Canadian, American or British person. I like the British accent, it is clearer and more understandable for me. But there are many contents, films, videos with American accent, so it is important to listen to them.
I have chosen five different tutors and attended one lesson. I tried to speak for 60 minutes but I felt tired, it was enough for me. It is better to speak less minutes but more often. When I see my timetable I have two lessons of about 30 minutes every working day, the first in the morning and the second in the evening. Every tutor uses different style of learning, some use only free talk on some topic, others would like to talk about articles which students choose before lesson. It is very useful if tutors write notes in the Italki chat in order to correct students' speech.
I am excited to use Italki platform, it´s nice to meet new teachers, different people. I can really recommend it. If you can hear and speak an American accent, you can book for instance Mera, an American tutor from the USA. Typical British accent has Olivia from the UK. If you want to speak a Canadian accent, I can recommend retired teacher, but very powerfull, Jeannie from Canada.
I wish spent a have a nice time with native speakers from Italki!
